ABOUT US
In 1991, we came to Vancouver Island with 4 horses, 4 dogs, and various other critters. This was a dream come true for us...more land, more sunshine, and a slower pace of life, ha! ha! Well, we got the first two, but managing 48 acres was a bit more than these two rookies had bargained for; what with the clearing, fencing, fixing and building we were kept pretty busy! And what were we to do with all this land? Fill it with more animals of course....and babies are so cute...so we started breeding horses and dogs! First it was American Bashkir Curly horses and then most recently Warmbloods. We have on an average of 20 head of horses roaming our property. Some are old and retired some are young and in training and potentially for sale and some are earning their keep as lesson horses and/or trail horses.
Airedale Terriers, coincidently have curly coats as well. They have been a part of our lives since 1980. Later came the Irish Terriers in the late 90’s. Maintaining all these animals, as well as training, showing, taking seminars and clinics as well as hosting some and giving riding lessons keep us pretty busy!

We finally retired from our day jobs, as Teachers in the Nanaimo School district and so now we have more time, so we thought we would share our “little bit of heaven” with people like us who enjoy nature, the tranquility of the outdoors, and a slower pace of life, whether it riding the trails, biking, or hiking in the woods or just sitting on the porch of our cabin watching the birds and animals.
Our ranch is perfectly situated for all of this as we back onto hundreds of acres of forest with trails and old logging roads to explore. We have built a cozy little cottage that we rent in the back of our property as well as six drive through R.V. sites with adjoining paddocks if you want to bring your own horses. The best part is you don't have to leave the island! We are just 20 minutes south of Nanaimo and just over an hour drive from Victoria. Of course we welcome our friends from the mainland, as we are just a short drive from either the Departure Bay or Duke Point ferry terminals.
